The obverse shows the steam engine "kkStB 310" as it passes a signal mast. The abbreviation "kkStB" stands for Imperial-Royal State Railways (kaiserlich-königliche Staatsbahnen). The engine type 310 by the engineer Karl Gölsdorf was produced between 1911 ans 1916 in the factories of Floridsdorf in Vienna and the south in Wiener neustadt. The 310 locomotive was employed for express trains on the northern and western lines running out of Vienna.
The reverse side sowhs the arrival of a train at the platform of the North Railway Station in Vienna, which was built between 1858 and 1865. The iron and glass roofing supported by cast iron pillars can be clearly seen. The side walls were of dressed stone. Representative of the Belle Epoque, an elegant´lady of the ligh society awaits in the foreground passengers disembarking from the train.
